Welcome To Amy's
Fic's
Yes, this is the boring
bit were I try to brag about what an eccentric, unique freaky
geeky individual I am. Aren't us creative types always a little
off the wall? Well, truth be told I'm a pretty normal, boring
person. I go to work, I go out with my friends, and in my spare
time I dabble in the wonderful world of writing.
I have a 2:1 BA in
American Studies and History, and a file full of other random
qualifications that really don't mean a lot in the real world -
including a computer qualification that was achieved because I
could open a word document, type something in it, and
save it... Kudos to me. I'm sure Bill Gates would be proud.
As cliché as it sounds,
I really have had a host of dead-end, crappy jobs, but hey, it
wasn't always like that. I actually started out with respectable
prospects, intent on becoming a nurse... It lasted about two
years before I ran screaming for the hills; I would have made
the most awful nurse.
Like most people who
consider themselves writers, I've been doing this a long time. I
wrote my first story when I was eleven, and I've been putting my
thoughts onto paper ever since. The first ten
years or so of my writing 'career' are ignored. I produced
hundreds of stories, but immaturity shows in my work. I didn't
have the right tools - or experience - to write a story that
worked. Most of my early work should - and has been - shredded.
It is the source of much embarrassment and will never leave the
vaults of my computer hardrive.
I finally wrote my first novel when I was
seventeen. It was a fantasy book called The Darinian - a genre which I have developed a
love for over the years. It was written in the space of three
months, but I was pretty surprised with how it turned out -
coherent for a start. It was the proudest
achievement of my writing life to-date. I hope I can go back one day and
edit it enough to post it because it was pretty good all things
considered. Since then I've continued to write steadily, but its
only in the last few years that I've felt comfortable enough to
publish my stories for other people to read and so this website
was born to house my random musings.
I find writing a lot
like real life; when it's good, its great, but when things go
wrong it completely sucks. My muse is a fickle friend. She's
generous most of the time, but occasionally you'll find her in
Las Vegas, passed out on a slot machine, spending my creative
chips. I don't believe in writers block as such, but when she's
off having 'down time' I definitely notice. It can be
frustrating as hell staring at a blank screen, waiting for
inspiration to 'strike'. I manage for about an hour and then I
give inspiration a sharp kick. Usually, it's enough to get me
started again.
I've dabbled in poetry
in the past, but it's never a pretty outcome. I now steer clear
of that creative outlet. It usually reads like the end of the
world is nigh, or cheesy as hell. Apparently, my subconscious
thoughts are being held by a thirteen-year old, hormonal
teenager.
I write under the
pseudonyms of A.J. Evans and ames449. It's very rare that I ever
publish things under my own name - mostly because I don't like
it, but also because my mother drilled it into me about internet
whack jobs! Never mind the fact I'm twenty-four!
